Who We Are

  • We are an exceptional group of K-12 diverse educators and a powerful resource for classroom teachers who are responsible for teaching classes that contain both grade level and academically challenged student populations. Our tutors are non-judgmental, caring and effective!
  • 95% of S.T.E.P. instructors are retired educators with over 20 years of experience. We have a team comprised of certified literacy and math specialists, Special Education teachers, data coaches, and former principals. This wealth of experience, and our on-site administrative teams, makes us unique from other tutorial services.
  • S.T.E.P. partners with school districts through the direction of principals to close the achievement gap of their identified students.

What We Do

  • Each participating school will be assigned an onsite administrator, leaving no extra tasks for faculty or staff. The principal will determine the frequency and duration of a contract.
  • S.T.E.P. instructors collaborate with the classroom teachers to provide seamless support for a group of 5-6 identified students per tutor. Our intervention plan is consistent and follows district and state mandates. Our tutors support and utilize the curriculum set by the classroom teacher and provide supplemental resources that are aligned with the Standards.
  • S.T.E.P. is data driven. We use the results of STAR, MAP and iReady school assessments to target our intervention point. This allows the tutors to apply targeted and time-sensitive instruction during regular classroom periods.
  • S.T.E.P. Academics tutors help to develop discipline-specific literacy skills across the curriculum to ensure that students become effective communicators in each of their subjects.
  • We teach underperforming students how to learn in their classroom environment by bridging the communication gap.
  • We empower students to become active participants in their education.

Lauren Fofana is a recognized leader in the community who plans and executes opportunities for students to succeed academically. She is especially passionate about helping families whose finances interfere with getting the professional services that their children need and deserve to have. S.T.E.P. Academics Inc. is an academic enrichment company that has been providing tutoring services since 2002. To date, “S.T.E.P.” has provided tutorial support to over 22 schools and over 1,500 students (Grades 1 – 12) in the critical areas of Mathematics and Literacy skills which are applied across the curriculum.
